Battery Storage for Existing Solar Systems
Solar without battery storage still shuts off during an outage for safety, even with the sun out — that's how grid-tied systems work by design. Adding a battery to a system you already have is one of the most common upgrade requests we get. Compatibility depends on your specific inverter and panel setup, which we check during an on-site assessment before quoting anything, rather than assuming every existing system is a drop-in fit.
Whole-Home Battery Backup
Whole-home backup keeps everything in the house running during an outage — AC, appliances, everything you'd normally use on a regular day. This is the most common setup we install, and it's worth deciding on your essential-circuits list before sizing anything, since that list is what the whole system gets built around.
Backup Power Without Solar
A battery doesn't require solar panels to work as backup power. A standalone battery charges from the grid during normal operation, then discharges to your home automatically during an outage — similar to how a generator kicks in, but silent, with no fuel to store or run out of mid-outage (within the battery's capacity). It won't reduce your electric bill the way a solar-paired battery does, since nothing is generating power, but it's a legitimate option for a property where backup power is the only goal, not lower utility bills.
